New to the field

I would love to hear from experienced professionals out there. I am just now breaking into this field by enrolling in a masters degree program. I am particuarly interested in working with kids who have been abused, both physically and sexually. I am interested in the treatment of this population and of the prevention of reccurences. I have heard the saying so many times that there is "no cure" for sex offenders. I see a great part of this concept as the "secrective element" which is so often found with the abused child. What if the child knew that they did not have to keep there abuse a secret? Wouldn't this in turn make a child more accessible to reach? Maybe then that child would not become a repeat offender. Just yesterday I saw how in Georgia, sex offenders are living in illegal campsites. As a parent, I understand not wanting to have a sex offender live in your back yard, but how can we prevent a situation from getting to this point? I see an urgent need to campaign for the prevention. I don't know that there is"no cure", but this is a preventable act. I invite any dialouge or information that relates to this topic.
